Cloves /laung/ is an active ingredient in all our masala chai blends.
Whenever I would have a toothache, my mum would crush a clove to put on my tooth and within minutes, the ache would disappear. From then I learnt that cloves help with pain relief as they can numb the area gently. Growing up, grandad always put cloves in his chai blends and mum would use them in her Indian cooking. It was in my family's kitchen that I learnt the unique warming properties and flavours of clove.
For centuries in Ayurveda, cloves have been used to enhance digestion and metabolism. It's also known to help ease gas, bloating and nausea. Many Indian toothpastes use cloves for tooth health and to freshen the breath!
For the Ayurvedic nerds, cloves are known the help pacify Vata and Kapha and increase Pitta.
