Masala is the word for spice. So our masala chai is spiced tea, which is traditionally how people in India drink their tea: it's a mix of black tea with spices and milk. The caffeine free chai is free of tea leaves, leaving you a beautiful blend of spices. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e","image":{"created_at":"2018-06-02T13:44:40+10:00","alt":"","width":1080,"height":1080,"src":"\/\/chaiwalli.com.au\/cdn\/shop\/collections\/chai-walli-11-spice-black-chai-award-winning-ayurvedic-organic1.jpg?v=1635386074"}},{"id":81274929226,"handle":"staff-picks","updated_at":"2024-05-13T13:55:05+10:00","published_at":"2019-01-25T10:00:13+11:00","sort_order":"price-asc","template_suffix":"grid","published_scope":"global","title":"Staff Favourites","body_html":"","image":{"created_at":"2018-11-11T22:16:10+11:00","alt":"chai walli pot strainer tea cup australia india small business online shopping gifts ","width":1080,"height":1080,"src":"\/\/chaiwalli.com.au\/cdn\/shop\/collections\/A20F0570-E86A-4CC8-8869-2A55835984C8.jpg?v=1585205987"}}]
Introducing our newest blend, the Australian Native Masala Chai. Rich with flavours from the Australian rainforest and bushland, combined with the vibrancy of Indian spices. Chai Walli is a proud Australian business run by Uppma Virdi, a first-generation Indian Australian migrant. The Australian Native Masala Chai blend came about out of a request by Deakin University in Melbourne who wanted to support a local business who had a connection to Deakin. They needed 700 bags for different department to gift to their stakeholders and alumni.
Uppma is a Deakin alumni who studied Law and Commerce. But the world had different plans for her by pushing her into sharing her cultural roots. She’s the granddaughter of an Ayurvedic doctor and learnt from him how to master the art of chai and ancient flavours to create purposeful blends. Today, the Chai Walli team aims to preserve cultural heritage by handcrafting authentic family recipes. Chai Walli’s Australian native blend is an expression of the diversity and creativity of migrants in Australia. This blend pays homage to Uppma’s cultures by pairing Indian Ayurvedic spices with seasonal Australian natives. We hope each sip of this grounding blend gives you the experience of cross-cultural balance.
Recently Uppma won the Deakin Young Alumna of the Year Award for her contributions to culture, community and heritage.
